tea tree

Tea tree oil is an amazing oil that works wonders for the skin to eliminate acne. It is extracted from the leaves of the tea tree by gently steam distilling the leaves until the oil seeps out. The tea tree originates from Australia and its oil is sold around the world to those in need of healing their damaged skin. It’s important when looking to purchase tea tree oil that it is 100% pure and natural with no preservatives or chemicals added.

Benefits of Tea Tree Oil for Acne Treatment

1. Effectively kills acne without the negative side effects like other topical treatments like benzoyl peroxide gel which can over-dry your skin and cause redness and irritation.

2. It’s natural and pure so it’s safer for your skin and overall health.

3. It will minimize your pores even if they are generally large. Your skin will look smoother and refreshed.

4. If you suffer from oily skin, you will be less oily in a short amount of time through the use of tea tree oil. It is a “good” oil so it won’t make you greasy or more oily.

5. It will not clog your pores.

Warning

Pure tea tree oil can react negatively with certain skin types so test a small area of your skin before applying to all acne-infested areas. Test an area by pouring a small amount of the oil onto a cotton swab and apply to an area of the skin and leave it on for a couple of hours. If you don’t have an adverse reaction like redness, swelling, or a rash develops, your skin should not react negatively to utilizing tea tree oil. If your skin does react poorly, dilute with a carrier oil. We recommend coconut oil, but you can also use Grapeseed Oil, and Jojoba Oil.

DO NOT LEAVE TEA TREE OIL SITTING ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WITH COTTON SWABS OR ANY MATERIAL ON YOUR SKIN. We have met people that have fallen asleep with pure tea tree oil on their skin for a few hours and have actually burnt holes in their skin. Do not let this be you! Only a small amount is needed to apply to acne to effectively kill the pimples.

One of Our Favorite Products Infused with Tea Tree Oil

Urban Decay Cosmetics has this fabulous product called De-Slick that contains tea tree oil. It comes in pressed powder form and in a cream but we think its best in pressed powder form. Using this powder as a finishing powder over your foundation leaves your skin looking smooth and fresh but not over-matted. It will practically erase the appearance of pores without clogging them and will fight acne in the process. Carry it with you during the day and instead of re-applying your foundation, simply and gently apply De-Slick to your oily areas and you will instantly look refreshed.

Pure and natural tea tree oil is truly effective at fighting acne and preventing it from coming back in the future. Remember to also cleanse your face morning and night with a gentle cleanser and follow with an oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Exfoliate your skin 3 times a week with a gentle exfoliator to remove cellular buildup from your skin. Dry skin can trap clogged pores so remove dead skin weekly!
