Acne is something that almost everyone deals with at some point in their lives. It occurs in many forms such as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, nodules, and cysts. Acne will scar if not treated properly or if picked and popped while on the surfaced of your skin. Most often it occurs on your face, neck, shoulders, back, arms, chest, and buttocks. Pimples develop when the pores in your skin get clogged with excess oil, acne-causing bacteria, and dead skin cells due to hormones imbalances in the body, stress, poor diet, or poor skincare regimen. There are several acne products to help you deal with various types of acne. Most acne sufferers have problems when deciding which acne product is right them and their specific condition. Consulting a dermatologist is the best bet, but if you are unable to do so, we at Acne Skin Site have put together a small list of topical acne ointments that can help with your acne.

1. Acne creams and lotions are the most popular and commonly used products on the market. They are quite affordable and since are sold over-the-counter, are easy to purchase. They work as a spot treatment on acne and can deal with minor to mild acne breakouts. Some commonly used topical creams include Benzoyl Peroxide, Tretinoin, Clindamycin, and Retino-A. Proactiv offers a benzoyl peroxide treatment that is applied in the last step of their three-step skincare system. Not sure if it will work for you? Trial and error is unfortunately the best way to see if your skin will take to a specific product.

2. Another  type of topical acne treatment comes in a gel form. Acne gels are found to be quite effective at treating acne breakouts. When using any type of acne gel it’s important to remember that the ingredients are very powerful and could cause your skin to become sensitive to sunlight, therefore always apply sunscreen when using this type of acne product. It’s also important to use white bed sheets and bath towels since certain gels can cause bleach stains. Most popular gels include Benzoyl Peroxide, Tazorac Gel, and Murad Post-Acne.

3. You can also treat acne with a combination of herbal medicine and oral acne medication from your dermatologist. All oral acne medications need a prescription written by a practicing doctor so a visit to the doctor is required to go this route.

Be sure to choose acne products carefully. If you don’t know which acne product is best to use for your specific type of acne, remember you can always consult with a dermatologist. That is the safest bet before using any type of medication.
