Facial Moisturizers

It’s as important to moisturize your skin twice a day as it is to cleanse your skin twice a day. Most people think that moisturizing their skin will cause more oil and acne breakouts but just the opposite is true. Simply use an oil-free moisturizer if you are concerned about oil and you won’t have any negative effects. Moisturizer balances the pH levels of your skin so you will have less oil on the surface of your skin and less pimples! If you think your oily but don’t use moisturizer, you are probably oily because you’re not moisturizing. Start moisturizing regardless of your skin type and we guarantee your skin will look and feel better in a very short amount of time.  Wondering what the best moisturizer is for your skin type? We have broken it down for you into 5 categories and chosen our favorites for normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive skin types.

Normal Skin

We rarely meet anyone with “normal” skin but if your skin is not too oily, dry, or sensitive, well lucky you! Even normal skin needs some TLC (tender loving care) so it’s important to follow a solid skincare routine no matter what your skin type is. Cleanse your skin twice daily, morning and night, and follow with an oil-free moisturizer. Below are a couple of our favorites.

Aveeno

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

This stuff is just plain awesome. It contains natural oatmeal blended together with emollients that are rich and hydrate your skin all day and all night without leaving your skin feeling greasy or heavy. Lindsay Tosto, pro makeup artist and blogger of Acne Skin Site raves about this moisturizer. She wears it daily and her skin is more on the sensitive side. She experiences no negative side effects and gives it her beauty stamp of approval!

DermaAcneDermalogica Pure Light SPF30

Anything created by Dermalogica is incredible. They are the number one choice of professionals in the skincare industry and are one of the top skincare lines sold worldwide. We love Pure Light SPF30. It is of medium-weight and perfect for daytime use. It protects the skin from UV light while it also heals skin due to its exclusive blend of minerals, peptides, and botanical extracts. It’s simply amazing.

Dry Skin

If you suffer with dry skin, you more than likely have dry patches on your skin that can feel tight and cause your skin to look aged and ashy. With dry skin comes irritation and inflammation which can be quite painful. Your skin is dehydrated and is lacking the proper moisture to prevent dryness from happening. Moisturizing is a crucial step to eliminate dryness. Make sure to exfoliate a minimum of 3 times a week to gently slough away dead skin cells that can trap impurities in your pores and cause you to breakout more. Though every skin type should exfoliate after cleansing and before moisturizing, it is even more crucial for dry skin. Our favorite moisturizer for dry skin is below.

Derm IntensiveDermalogica Intense Moisture Balance

This is the absolute best moisturizer for dry skin sufferers. It is loaded with antioxidants to bring your skin back to life and minimizes fine lines from dryness and repairs skin damage due to the Vitamin C within the moisturizer. Fine lines and wrinkles can form when skin is dehydrated so this moisturizer restores skin’s appearance and health. You will love how soft your skin feels too.

Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you know how frustrating it can be to try to combat oil buildup all day on your skin. The last thing you want to do is apply a moisturizer to it that you believe will make it more greasy and oily. But that’s a lie. We are here to clear up this myth once and for all. Applying an oil-free moisturizer to your skin will not cause you to be oily. In fact, your skin will be less oily due to the effects of the moisturizer balancing the pH levels of your skin, causing you to be less oily and also have less breakouts. If you don’t apply moisturizer, your sebaceous glands work in over-drive pulling more sebum (oil) to the surface of your skin to try to hydrate what’s not being hydrated – Hence, oily skin forms. So do you and your skin a favor and start using an oil-free moisturizer morning and night after cleansing. Below are a couple of our top picks.

Oil-FreeNeutrogena Broad Spectrum SPF 35

This moisturizer is an inexpensive product that works to nourish your skin with amazing hydration. It will minimize oils from surfacing to your top layers of skin and will prevent breakouts as well. There are two options for this moisturizer, SPF 35 and SPF 15, but we recommend the higher level of protection because why wouldn’t you want to protect your skin from harmful UV rays? You will still get tan but your skin will be protected from damaging sun rays that cause spotting, premature aging, and skin cancer.

Active MoistDermalogica Active Moist

If you are looking for an incredible oil-free moisturizer that will work with your skin to combat oily, look no further than Active Moist. It is a bit of a pricier moisturizer but a little goes a long way! Simply a pea-size is needed, or just a tiny bit more, to work on your entire face. It is a light-weight cream that is sheer yet super hydrating without making you oily. It is packed with Silk Amino acids and a complex blend of plant extracts to improve your skin’s health and texture – The dehydration at the surface of your skin will be eliminated within a couple uses.

Combination Skin

Combination skin means that you have a combination of oily and dry skin on different areas of your face. Around the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin, you may be oily and on the sides of your face more dry. Either way, this skin type is no fun but luckily there are products made specifically for people like you!  Our top picks are below.

Neutrogena ComboNeutrogena Oil-Free Moisture

This is a wonderful product that works with your skin type. It is light-weight and works in two ways – to hydrate dry areas and to control shine and oil in other areas. There is a unique oil-absorbing Microsponge system that controls oil on your skin. This product is oil-free, fragrance-free, and won’t clog pores.

Smoothing CreamDermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream

This is a medium-weight moisturizer that works to even out the oiliness/dryness on the skin. Extracts of Mallow, Cucumber, and Arnica hydrate the skin and soothe inflammation and irritation, bringing the skin back to life. Intense-moisturizing Lecithin and Aloe Vera gel nourish and heal the skin.

Sensitive Skin

We truly feel for those that deal with sensitive skin. People with sensitive skin more than likely have breakouts or rashes form for most products that touch their skin so it makes it quite frustrating to find products that genuinely do what they claim to do. Luckily, we have listed a couple below that will work wonders for your skin.

Neutrogena SensitiveNeutrogena Oil-Free Moisture

This moisturizer is light-weight and water-based so your skin should respond well to it. It won’t leave your skin feeling heavy, oily, or looking shiny – just beautifully moisturized. It is created to be “extra gentle” and is irritant-free so it contains no alcohol. It is oil-free, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and hypoallergenic.

Derm Barrier RepairDermalogica Barrier Repair

We have never met someone with sensitive skin that has tried this product and had a negative experience with it. It is simply amazing. It literally is perfect for almost anyone with sensitive skin, as long as you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. This moisturizer is light-weight and is anhydrous, which means it’s waterless. It tones, shields, protects, against stress and environmental circumstances, while it reduces irritation, inflammation, and redness.

As you can see, there are many skin types out there so don’t feel like you’re alone on this quest for finding the perfect moisturizer for you! A lot goes into it so hopefully we have lessened the stress for you and one of our recommendations works perfectly for you! We love moisturizer and you will too once you find your perfect fit.
