Our eating habits play a significant role in maintaining a healthy body and healthy skin. What we eat affects our skin greatly. For those of you who are prone to acne it is very important that you eat healthy food to reduce acne. Beautiful skin and a healthy body starts from within.
We all know that junk food is one of the causes for acne, but do you know that dairy products also trigger acne? Dairy products are an important part of a healthy diet but recently it has been discovered that certain dairy products that we’ve always considered good for our health cause acne breakouts.
The connection between dairy products and acne revealed
Do you know that 75-90% of milk which we drink comes from pregnant cows? Drinking milk and consuming dairy products from pregnant cows exposes us to hormones the cows produce. These hormones get into the milk and we drink it – and then go into our systems.
The hormones which we get from milk and dairy products are similar to the hormones that cause the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. Therefore consumption of certain dairy products and milk increases sebum production, which surfaces on our skin and gets clogged in our pores, causing pimples to form.
The quicker the skin cells grow the faster they die which means more dead skin cells block the pores. Blockage of pores and an increase in sebum is a well-known cause for acne. More sebum buildup combined with a buildup of acne-causing bacteria leads to acne breakouts; hence it is recommended that people who are prone to acne should avoid milk and dairy products to reduce acne.
In addition, it is also believed that there is a connection between iodine in dairy products and acne for some people.
The cows are given iodine-based solutions and iodine-fortified feed to prevent infections. The result is that the milk produced by the cows is subsequently high in iodine. For people who are susceptible to acne, high iodine mixed in dairy products and milk leads to worsen acne breakouts.
So now you know if you are prone to acne you should stay away from most dairy products or alternatively consume dairy products sensibly by limiting your intake altogether. Excessive consumption of ice cream, milk, cheese, butter, and yogurt can be major causes for your acne breakouts.
Guess I’ll stop drinking so much milk. My mom kept on saying that the reason I kept on getting acne was because I didn’t wash my face cleanly. Which I do! Guess it’s my mom’s diary product that keeps on using for our meals.
I guess I’ll try out this method to get rid of my acne, but I won’t ban it all together, I’ll just try to shorten the amount of diary products that I consume.
