Acne is frustrating for anyone that has to deal with it. Though acne is seen as skin-deep, it actually stems from deeper within the body and needs to be treated effectively and with as little damage done to the skin as possible. There are literally thousands of acne solutions being sold in the market today, and it’s almost impossible to make the right choice for you. So what to do, what to choose? Here are some options for you:

Simply Follow a Proper Skincare Routine

In mild cases of acne, it is important that you cleanse your face with warm water and a gentle cleanser. Doing so will help to get rid of dead skin cells, acne-causing bacteria, and excess oil in your pores. Be careful not to scrub your face too much or use strong chemical solutions because that may irritate your skin further, causing more acne breakouts.

Non-Prescription Acne Solutions

Still getting acne all over your face? You can try non-prescription treatment for your acne. Common solutions that fall into this category include antibacterial solutions and topical creams that include benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Antibacterial solutions are often found in cleansers, which battles bacteria that could cause acne. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid work to kill the acne by battling the bacteria and drying it out.

Prescription Acne Treatment

For more intense acne breakouts, you’ll need to get help from a dermatologist. Your dermatologist can provide you with prescription acne treatment that will be more effective against your problem. Some prescription acne treatments include retinoids that unclog your pores, antibiotics that battle acne-causing bacteria, and even oral contraceptives which fights acne from within. While prescription medicines are effective at battling severe acne problems, they are obviously more expensive than regular acne treatments so it’s important to have health insurance or government aid.

Holistic Approach

Sometimes there isn’t a single effective solution to battling your acne problems. While cleansing your face regularly removes excess oils, it doesn’t stop the overproduction of oils that cause pimples. So the cycle of acne breakouts will continue. What you need is an overall approach towards battling your acne. This involves digging into the deeper causes of your acne problem and battling it at that level. It’s important to follow a healthy lifestyle where you balance your nutrition with working out and keeping balance between your work and personal life. What you take into your body and how you treat it will ultimately affect how your skin and overall health is.
