Proper Pimple-Popping Etiquette

Okay, okay so it is NOT recommended to pop or pick at your pimples but if you are going to not listen and do so anyways, you better make sure you’re doing it “right.” Not following these tips will cause your skin to breakout more, cause scarring, and take even longer for the original pimples to heal. Read along…

1. Cleanse your face with a gentle exfoliating cleanser in a circular motion with your fingertips to remove any bacteria from your skin.

2. Rinse off with warm water.

3. Gently pat face dry. Do not rub your face harshly with a towel – This will irritate your skin.

4. Sanitize the head (pointy part) of a needle with rubbing alcohol and Kleenex.

5. Take the sanitized head of a needle and gently poke into the white head of the pimple you are trying to pop.

6. Lightly and gently squeeze the puss from the pimple, making sure to not pop too hard that it starts to bleed.

7. Dab off excess fluid gently with a Kleenex.

8. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to keep skin moisturized.

9. Apply a tiny amount of benzoyl peroxide to pimple to eliminate bacteria from infecting the open pore.

10. Do not pick at the pimple anymore! Let it heal properly and in due time. If you notice it scabbing, feel free to apply a tiny bit of Neosporin to help speed up the healing process.

Now you know the proper way to pop a pimple. Honestly, only pop it if it’s oozing puss at the head of the pimple (gross description, yea yea). Irritating a little pimple or trying to pop a pimple that has no apparent white puss at the center is just asking for trouble and more damage to be done to your skin.
