Top 4 Tips on Preventing Acne

Nobody likes having acne. For some people, having an acne problem can be embarrassing, to others, it can cause sheer discomfort and pain. Acne problems become even worse when they cause scarring on the face.

If you are one of the millions of people living with acne, then you have come to the right place. We will show you many ways you can prevent this skin problem. Some solutions are so simple you might wonder why you haven’t thought of them in the first place!

Cleanse your face twice a day

Acne can be caused by excessive oil build up and dead skin cells that could clog your pores. It could also be caused by buildup of bacteria in that area, which then results in an acne breakout. Your first line of defense against acne should be to wash your face twice daily, morning and night. You don’t even have to use an expensive cleanaser to do this. In fact, most dermatologists would recommend against using harsh chemicals and aggressive washing of the face, as these could actually result in an acne breakout. Do not cleanse more than 2-3 times a day, ever.

Use acne treatments

The type of acne treatment that you need depends on the severity of your acne problem. For mild cases of acne, some over the counter acne solutions will work. These solutions include topical treatments with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which come in a variety of brand names. However, if you have a massive and regular acne breakout, then you’ll need to consult with a dermatologist. The dermatologist will then prescribe a stronger and more effective acne solution. Some of the prescription acne medications include retinoids and antibiotics that battle the bacteria that cause acne. Dermatologists sometimes prescribe the use of oral contraceptives as it lowers androgen hormone levels, since this hormone is often associated with acne breakouts.

Control your diet

Although there is still debate on foods that cause acne, it always pays to control your diet and only eat healthy foods.

Take a holistic approach against acne

While most acne drugs do work, they only suppress the outbreak of acne and do not prevent the problem altogether. What you should do is take a holistic approach in battling acne. Improve your diet, balance the hormones that create acne buildup, and live as stress-free of a life as possible.
