Aloe Vera Honey Mask
Posted By: Lindsay Schroeder Posted In: Homemade Facials Date Posted: June 15th, 2012 Comments: 45

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon of 100% Pure Aloe Vera Gel

1 Tablespoon Raw Organic Honey

Prep:

It is best to use a leaf of Aloe Vera from an Aloe Vera plant if possible. If you are not able to buy one or live in a climate where this is difficult, many grocery stores sell large leaves of Aloe Vera individually that you can squeeze all the gel out of and store in an air-tight container in your refrigerator. You can also purchase pure Aloe Vera gel from a health food store or local market already bottled for you. Just make sure it is 100% natural with no chemicals or pesticides added for longer shelf life. IT MUST BE PURE.

Mix the 2 ingredients together in a bowl. Once blended well, apply to your clean face and neck (and back if you have acne there as well). Leave the mask on for 20-25 minutes then rinse off with warm water and a washcloth. Gently pat dry with a soft hand towel then apply an oil-free moisturizer on your face and neck to retain needed moisture.

Benefits:

This mask is super easy to make and truly will help soothe your skin while fighting acne. Anyone who suffers from any type of inflammation from acne like swelling, irritation, or redness would benefit from using this mask. Aloe Vera, in its natural form, has been known to help reduce pain and suffering from sunburns but many skin care products contain Aloe Vera due to its healing properties.

Polysaccharides are found in large amounts within the gel of the Aloe Vera plant. This nutrient allows new skin cell growth to take place which will make your skin look fresh and rejuvenated. It is important for old skin to shed by utilizing an exfoliating treatment at least 3 times a week and doing so will allow this new skin cell growth to happen.

Aloe Vera gel is great for anyone who suffers from dry skin and will help hydrate your skin without clogging your pores. So if you suffer from acne, do not be afraid to try this mask because it will not worsen your acne. In fact, it will make your skin more clear and radiant after just one use.

Aloe Vera is also wonderful when taken orally. Many people who are considered ‘juicers’ add a tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel to their juice. It has a light flavor and is safe to ingest on a daily basis. If you are not a juicer, you can mix a tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel with a tablespoon of pure honey to have a delicious little burst of antioxidant goodness in your mouth. Remember to make sure you are only using PURE Aloe Vera gel topically and orally.

Pure honey is loaded with anti-microbial properties and is a natural antioxidant. Honey fights microbial infections that cause acne without irritating your skin or clogging your pores. Honey works gently and painlessly to pull out deeply embedded impurities from your pores that would normally stay clogged with acne-causing bacteria and excess oil.  It will also help restore your skin’s texture and reduce damage done to your skin by the sun and daily environments you come in contact with. You can also use honey on your face once a week alone as its own mask in addition to this Aloe Vera Honey mask.

This facial mask is safe to use on anyone as long as you are not allergic to either of the ingredients. Even the most sensitive skin can benefit from this mask, including pregnant women. We recommend using this Aloe Vera Honey mask one to two times a week to achieve the results of clear skin you are striving for.

Wow! I had asked myself earlier if aloe vera & honey could work? Thanks for sharing this information! But which is more effective for acne issues, cinnamon & honey or aloe vera & honey? Thank you.

You can use this mask around once a day daily.
Honey has a very positive affect on skin and I can also tell from personal experience. I’ve used honey in other facial masks (with oats and yoghurt) and the honey makes your skin smoother, younger and leaves a glowing look to it. You can also feel the difference after a warm water wash.
Aloe Vera juice is made from the aloe vera plant itself. Using other juice forms is not recommended because juices usually include ingredients that are not required for the skin and some ingredients that might a completely different affect on the skin (acetyc acid).
Ale Vera DRINK is NOT SUITABLE FOR USE. Drinks always contains acids and that over-dries the skin leaving it dry and irritable and very vulnerable to breakouts, the sun etc.
Over all, Aloe Vera and honey are very helpful, mild and useful ingredients that can be used daily. I have used both daily with no negative side effects and a huge improvement in blemishes.
Tip: if you do not have the Aloe Vera plant & have used Aloe Vera juices in the past that have had a positive affect on your skin, check the ingredients before continuing use to make sure all ingredients are natural. There might be a company out there that I’m not aware of that’s herbal.

I’ve just got an aloe plant and plan to use this for my skin as I have face/ chest acne.

Do I squeeze out the juice of the plant and put it directly on my face – and how many times can I do this without causing any harm – I also suffer from blemishes 🙁

  • Marcy Lopez - January 9, 2013 at 9:11 pm - Reply

I have used the Aloe Vera gel inself for abt a month now and before it honey masks but this is a great idea I cant wait to try it! My only thought is if I need a moisturizer after so my skin doesn’t dry out especially since using daily.

I think this is a great mask, I will try it right away. Is it safe during pregnancy? I’ve broken out horribly, my skin is so irritated, itchy and the acne is dry and I have scars. My face is just horrible. But i just need to know if It is safe to use while prego!!

  • tsr - January 31, 2013 at 12:47 am - Reply

i tried using honey alone and it made me broke out. well, i think i kind of purged instead. but i’m not ready to purge…. using aloe vera alone is not too bad. it doesn’t help to get rid of acne but help to reduce redness and maybe tighten your pores for a tiny bit.
