Brown Sugar Mask
Posted By: Lindsay Schroeder Posted In: Homemade Facials Date Posted: June 15th, 2012 Comments: 22

Ingredients:

3 Tablespoons of organic brown sugar

3 teaspoons of pure extra virgin olive oil

Prep:

Mix the brown sugar and extra virgin olive oil in a bowl until it turns into a paste. Apply the mask on your freshly cleansed face and neck in a gentle, circular motion with your fingertips. Allow the face mask to sit on the skin for 10-15 minutes then rinse off with warm water, gently pat dry with a soft hand towel, and apply an oil-free moisturizer to retain moisture on the skin.

Benefits:

If you have ever tried using a store-purchased sugar mask or facial cleansing scrub and it has irritated your skin, it may be that you have used a product with processed white cane sugar in it. Though many people can use this type of sugar and not have it bother them, it can irritate other people’s skin. If you are one of those that have had negative results to processed sugar on the skin, try using an organic brown sugar scrub mask instead. Brown sugar is raw and natural, not processed, and there are no chemical preservatives in it that can irritate your skin. Brown sugar is colored with molasses, but this will not irritate your skin. In fact, brown sugar is enriched with B vitamins due to the molasses which has been found to be a wonderful antioxidant to prevent and/or repair damage done to your skin by the sun and other environmental reasons.

Brown sugar will not only add moisture to your skin, but will retain moisture as well, and it works as an amazing exfoliator on your skin to remove dead skin cells that clog pores and trap oil and acne-causing bacteria. Gently pulling all those impurities from your pores will minimize acne breakouts and minimize the size of your pores since they won’t be clogged with oil and bacteria. Fresh, new, rejuvenated skin will surface and give your skin the appearance of a more youthful look.

Extra virgin olive oil is a wonderful natural moisturizer for your skin and will not clog your pores or cause you to breakout. Extra virgin olive oil is actually added to many of the skin care products you use on a daily basis so it’s completely safe and recommended to use directly on your skin to nourish the deepest levels of your skin. Olive oil contains amazing nutrients and antioxidants that benefit your skin including Vitamins A and E. These vitamins will repair skin damaged by the sun, earthly pollutants, and poor eating habits to name a few. Don’t be afraid that olive oil will break you out because it’s an oil. It is an oil but it is a good oil. It will help balance the pH levels of your skin helping your skin be less oily in a short amount of time. So go ahead and enjoy this face mask. It’s a sweet and oh-so-nourishing face mask that will leave your skin glowing, radiant, and clear.

Hello im an avid follower and I adore your tweets and website!! I found that adding a few drops of water made it form a paste. I used hot water, however, I’m sure cold water will work too. I was also wondering how often can this mask or scrub be used? My guess is twice a week but I wanted to be sure.
