Lips, Lips, Lips!

Everyone has lips but a lot of people don’t take care of them! There’s nothing worse than seeing someone who has chapped, dehydrated, crackly lips and wondering why they aren’t doing something about it? Why are they so overlooked?!  Would you want to kiss someone with chapped lips? So, if you reading this have chapped lips, why are you the exception? Everyone should keep chapstick or lip balm in their pocket or purse and reapply as needed. A good rule of thumb: If you find yourself starting to lick your lips to wet them, reapply. Or if you are starting to pick at the skin on your lips, start taking care of your lips.

Other than using a chapstick or lip balm on a regular basis, using a lip exfoliator about 3 times a week wouldn’t hurt either. Now guys, I know you’re reading this and thinking, “What the HE*L is a lip exfoliator?!” A lip exfoliator is something you massage on your lips to gently remove dead dry skin that is keeping your lips chapped and uncomfortable. We promise to the men out there that try this, no one has to know you exfoliate your lips so get to it. Here’s some really great lip exfoliating recipes that taste good too! But resist the urge to lick it off until it’s done its job!

Homemade Lip Treatments

1. Olive Oil and Sugar Scrub. Gather ¼ teaspoon of pure olive oil and 1/8 of a teaspoon of organic brown sugar or organic cane sugar and mix together in a small bowl. Apply to your lips with your fingertips massaging the scrub in a circular motion over and over all over your lips. Continue this for about one to two minutes then rinse off with clean warm water. The sugar granules will rinse away, leaving a minimal amount of olive oil on your lips for added hydration. Don’t be afraid if you get some olive oil on the outsides of your lips on your skin. Olive oil is a great moisturizer that won’t clog your pores. In fact, you can use this recipe on your entire face avoiding the eye area. Brown sugar has molasses in it, which is another great hydrator for your skin. After exfoliating your lips, apply some lip balm or chapstick and your lips will be instantly kiss-worthy!

2. Honey and Sugar Lip Mask. Combine a teaspoon of pure raw honey with two tablespoons of organic cane sugar and create a paste by mixing the two ingredients together. Apply to your clean lips and leave the paste on until it dries. Once dry, gently wipe off with a warm and wet washcloth. Apply a hydrating lip treatment to retain moisture.

3. Rose Petal Paste. Soak a couple rose petals in milk for 2-5 hours. Remove the rose petals and mash them up in a bowl until it becomes a paste. Apply the rose petal paste to your clean lips. Leave on for 25 minutes then rinse off and apply a lip balm. Milk absorbed into the rose petals will leave your lips super hydrated and moist.

4. A Soft Bristled, New Toothbrush. If you are in a hurry and don’t have time to make a sugar scrub treatment, take a clean, soft bristle toothbrush to your lips with some water and very gently rub the bristles over your lips in a circular motion for about a minute. Your lips will be instantly smoother. Follow with applying a lip balm or.

5. Vitamin E Tablet. Take a Vitamin E tablet, gently puncture it, and squeeze some of the oil out of the tablet and apply it on your clean lips. It will naturally hydrate your lips while leaving you with a beautiful glossy shine on your lips. Carry the remaining tablet filled with oil in a little plastic baggy to reapply as needed.

It’s also very important to keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water. We recommend at least 8 glasses of water a day or more. Staying hydrated will leave your skin and your lips moist – And your mouth will stay fresher too! Minimize your salt intake because salt retains water within your body, leaving you feeling and looking parched. It’s vital to apply a lip balm on at night as well to keep your lips hydrated since most people sleep with their mouths open, allowing air to pass in and out of their mouths causing dryness if there is no moisture protection. chapstick
