Antioxidants

Antioxidants are something we all hear about from health food gurus and beauty gurus, personal trainers, and medical professionals. But what ARE they exactly? Follow along and learn all you need to know about what antioxidants are and why they are so good for your health and skin!

1. The definition of antioxidants – “Antioxidants are substances that may protect your cells against the effects of free radicals.” Free radicals are created when the body breaks down food or is exposed to damaging environments like tobacco smoke or overexposure to radiation. Free radicals damage healthy cells and can cause heart disease, cancer, and other illnesses along with causing your skin to prematurely age.

2. Antioxidants are not only good when ingested but are also good when applied on your skin. There are many skincare products packed with antioxidants to help repair damage done to your skin by acne, the sun, or other environmental reasons. Homemade face masks and homemade skincare remedies that contain antioxidants are ideal for healing skin.

3. Foods that contain antioxidants include fruits and vegetables (organic is best because they are free of harsh chemical and preservatives that can deter from maximum health), nuts, whole grains, and some lean proteins like fish and chicken.

4. The absolute best foods to eat for instant antioxidant fuel include apples, blueberries, strawberries, red bell peppers, spinach, kale, broccoli, and nuts.

5. Antioxidants to look for include Vitamin A, C, and E, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, and selenium, just to name a few. These antioxidants will heal your internal body, strengthen your immune system, and will heal your external body, fighting acne, preventing reoccurring acne, and healing scars and open wounds more quickly.

6. Though supplements do work, they are not as effective as eating foods rich in antioxidants because these super foods are loaded with other good things for your body like a multitude of other vitamins and minerals that will strengthen your body in ways a simple supplement could never do.

Antioxidants will heal and strengthen your body from within and it will exude through your skin. You will get sick less often while having beautiful glowing skin you have been trying forever to achieve. Remember, we offer a multitude of homemade remedies, homemade smoothies, and homemade face masks here on Acne Skin Site for you to try as well, all of them packed with antioxidants to get your skin and body looking and feeling great. So what are you waiting for? Try them today!
