Food That Can Irritate Acne

Acne is a painful skin condition that causes red, pus-filled, and irritating bumps on the skin. Unfortunately there is not one thing that can pinpoint to causing acne though hormonal imbalances in the body, a lack of sleep, and improper diet can cause and worsen acne. Since food is not known to directly cause acne, there is no list we can give you that will tell you to not eat something and your skin will clear. However, there are certain foods to avoid that can worsen and irritate acne if ingested so read ahead to see what they are:

FATTY AND PROCESSED FOODS

Fatty and processed foods are high in saturated fat and contain a great deal of bad fats, salt, sugar, and oil. Because acne is caused by a high level of oil in the sebaceous glands of the skin, these foods must be avoided to minimize oil from surfacing on the skin. These oils can clog pores, trapping dirt and bacteria in the skin and causing severe breakouts. Certain foods include chips, cookies, pizza, French fries, and food with margarine.

MILK

Due to acne being caused by hormonal imbalances in the body, it is important for anyone suffering from acne to not ingest foods and liquids that contain hormones. Milk that has a higher fat content contains a higher level of hormones so not drinking this type of milk is recommended. Soymilk, almond milk, or skim milk are better options.

Remember that whatever you put into your body will exude through your skin. If you don’t take care of your body and what you eat, your skin will pay for it in the long run. Eat a large variety of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and drink plenty of water daily. Doing so will pay off and your skin will glow and be beautifully clear. You are what you eat! So which would you rather be…a crispy greasy French fry or a beautifully glowing, shiny, smooth apple?  Think about it…and choose
