Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! This is the most important tip to follow all winter long! Skin on the hands suffers greatly during the cold, winter months and it happens too quickly! Hands get dry, crackly, and sometimes bleed worse than other parts of the body due to how often we wash our hands. Now it’s important to continue cleansing often but make sure to have some hand lotion near you after every wash. If not, you will feel and see the pain. Ouch! Read along for some great tips on keeping hands soft and holding hands worthy:
1. Give your hands a paraffin wax treatment once to twice a week. Purchase a do-it-yourself treatment that you can re-use at home. Dip your hands in the safe, warm wax, wrap each hand in a plastic bag, allow to harden, and then peel off after a few minutes and feel and see the difference! Your hands will be so moisturized and your overall circulation will be better throughout your entire body. Follow with a hand moisturizer for added bonus.
2. Create your own sugar scrub to massage into your hands once a day. Sugar is great for exfoliating dead skin and also to moisturize. Mix some granulated cane sugar with warm water into your hands and give yourself a tiny “hand massage.” Some of the sugar particles will dissolve into your skin and will leave your hands oh-so-smooth. Feel free to use the rest of any mixture you have left on other parts of your body to exfoliate and hydrate (even on your lips!) Gently though, gently.
3. Wear gloves or mittens when outdoors in the winter. The cold air can whip through your skin, causing major dryness and sometimes, even causing your hands to bleed. This can be quite painful so make sure to keep your hands protected and warm.
4. Carry a tiny hand moisturizer in your bag during the day so you don’t miss a beat in terms of hydrating your hands after every cleansing. Also, place a hand moisturizer by every sink in your home to make it easy to remember to apply.
5. If you are dealing with severely dry hands, apply a thick coating of Vaseline to your hands before bed and place socks over your hands while you sleep. This will keep the moisture locked into the socks and the Vaseline will not be able to rub off onto your bed sheets. Following this step every night in the winter will save you a lot of pain and grief!
6. Cleanse your hands with warm water, not scalding hot water. The hotter the water, the more dryness you will endure.
Follow these tips and your hands will look beautiful in no time. No one wants to hold your hands if they are dry and scaly so make sure to keep them hydrated! Super simple steps that will keep your hand pain-free all winter long!
this really help 🙂
