Dry skin is such a nuisance, especially during this time of year transitioning from winter to spring and summer. You suffer from dry skin if your skin is flakey, tight feeling, and if you suffer from dry patches. Don’t despair if you fall into this category! Below are tips on how to treat dry skin that will leave your skin looking healthy, radiant, and hydrated!
Be Gentle – Don’t aggravate your skin by rubbing it harshly when cleansing your skin, applying makeup, or drying your skin. Be gentle on your skin otherwise by gently cleansing with your fingertips, applying makeup lightly with your fingertips or a sponge by blotting it on (a foundation brush may remove needed skin, causing the peeling dry skin to cake up on the face within the makeup), and when drying your face off, gently blot your skin dry with a soft hand towel as opposed to aggressively drying it.
Avoid Alcohol-Based Skincare Products – Skincare products with alcohol as an ingredient are not good for the skin. Alcohol can dry out the skin and strip the skin of necessary oils that hydrate the skin. Some people think this is good, especially if they’re oily, but it only solves the oily problem temporarily. When you strip the skin of essential oils, it will cause the skin to be more oily over time. Look for water-based skincare products that do not contain alcohol.
Don’t Use Hot Water – Use warm water instead in the shower or bath. Hot water will strip the skin of needed oils, causing the skin to be dry and irritated. Opt for lukewarm water to keep your skin calm and clean.
Use a Humidifier – Keep a humidifier on in your room while you sleep. The home can get dry, especially in the winter, and can dry out the skin. Using a humidifier with cool or warm steam will add moisture to the air thus adding moisture to your skin, minimizing dryness.
Exfoliate – Gently exfoliating the skin 3 times a week after cleansing and before moisturizing will help remove dead skin cells that trap impurities in the pores. Impurities, like acne-causing bacteria and excess oil, will cause pimples if not removed at least 3 times a week. Do not skip this necessary step to keep your skin rejuvenated and fresh.
