Exfoliating your skin is essential all year and even more necessary in the winter. The cold air, there being less humidity in the air, and central heat in our homes creates the perfect storm of dry, itchy, flaky skin. Often times this dry skin can be quite painful and makes you want to scratch at it until it’s irritated and red, sometimes even bleeding. Ouch! So what to do? Exfoliate with sugar! Sugar is a wonderful natural exfoliant that removes dead skin and cellular build-up, allowing fresh, rejuvenated skin to surface. It is also more gentle than salt, and smells and tastes delicious too! It will leave a beautiful glow to your skin and will also help your blood flow better throughout your body, opening the pores of your skin to remove dirt, oils, and bacteria.
For Your Face as a Mask:
2 Tablespoons of Organic Cane Sugar or Brown Sugar
3 Tablespoons of Lukewarm Water
Pour the warm water into the bowl of sugar and stir until all the sugar granules have dissolved. It’s important that the mixture is not coarse, so as to not cut up or tear at your skin. Once the mixture is smooth and creamy, massage the scrub onto your face and neck in a slow, gentle circular motion with your fingertips, avoiding the eye area. Continue this for 2 minutes then rinse the sugar solution off with warm water. Gently pat your face dry with a towel and follow with an oil-free moisturizer.
For Your Lips:
You can use the same ingredients and prep above (you can also substitute brown sugar for white granulated sugar) and rub the sugar solution gently over your lips for a couple minutes to rid your lips of dry, flaky skin. The skin on the lips is so much more delicate than that on the face so exfoliating and hydrating is vitally important in the winter. Feel free to rinse, or lick off, the mixture and follow with a hydrating lip balm or chapstick. Make sure to carry a lip balm or chapstick with you during the day to re-apply and also apply just before bedtime. You will be well on your way to smooth, beautiful lips!
For Your Body:
Using same ingredients above in a larger portion, use this awesome sugar scrub when in the shower! Replace your loofah with this awesome at-home treatment and you’ll see how awesome your skin looks and feels in no time! Cleanse your body with your normal bar soap then dip into the sugar scrub and massage into your skin (legs, arms, feet, etc…) for a couple of minutes. The dry skin will be gently scrubbed away in no time! Rinse the scrub off with warm water and dry off gently. Follow with an awesome body lotion. Your skin will be glowing it will be so rejuvenated!
As you can see, you don’t need to spend tons of money to deal with winter woes. You can follow these treatments 3 times a week and you will instantly see positive results. You won’t be tearing at your skin, wishing you could feel fresh and hydrated! Happy exfoliating…this sugar scrub solution is sweet AND practical! J

Please my mum is in her mid 50s and she’s always having heat rash during the hot weather. Please what can she use to stop and clear off the heat rashes on her body. Thank you.
Heat rash usually goes away on its own. Severe forms of heat rash may need medical care, but the best way to relieve symptoms is to cool your skin and prevent sweating. Remember always consult with your doctor before trying any type of treatment.
I have tried this sugar exfoliant and a number of times on my face but after the treatment i have new breakouts and wrinkles all over my face. Mind you i mix mine with honey instead of sugar.. Can you recommend a gentler exfoliant for me?
Sorry i mix mine with honey instead of water.
