5 Things that Worsen Acne Scarring

When you have acne, the last thing you want are battle scars left behind to remind you of what you went through. There are a few things that dermatologists know will make the potential of having scars worse and here is a list of the top 5 things that can make acne scars worse:

1. The sun: The more exposure your skin has to the sun, the more damage is being done to your skin. Sunscreen helps tremendously but it does not protect against every bit of damage, so if you are trying to avoid damage to your skin, your best bet is to not intensify any damaging effects and try and stay out of the sun whenever possible.

2. Picking or popping acne: The more you pick or pop your acne, the more likely you are to have acne scarring that will last a long time. Acne can sometimes leave scars even when you don’t touch it, but it is less likely to happen if you leave it alone and will heal more quickly.

3. Improper use of Vitamin E: If Vitamin E is used correctly, it can help skin heal more quickly and regenerate new skin cells more rapidly than normal, but it can also have a down side if not used the right way. Vitamin E can also be harmful to your body if taken in large doses, so make sure before starting this regimen, you speak to your doctor and find out just how much is alright for you to use.

4. Certain medications: There are a few different medications on the market that can make skin damage worse when attempting to heal scarring. These medications are often necessary to help our bodies heal or recover from other ailments, so make sure you know about all of the potential side effects when you start taking a new type of medication.

5. Excess dirt and oil build-up on the skin: If you are trying to avoid getting acne scars, then you need to make sure your face is cleansed on a routine basis. Cleansing it twice daily is usually plenty to keep it clear enough to avoid new acne. If new breakouts of acne come up under an old or healing breakout, chances are the scarring is going to be made worse.

Staying away from these potential dangers is the best way to avoid the possibility of acne scars worsening. The more you can treat the acne properly, the less likely you are to have problems with scarring down the line. Take the time to care for your skin and you will be happy with the results!
