What You Need to Know About Acne and Summer

Summer is a great time to relax, unwind, and be free to flaunt your beach-ready body. Unfortunately, summer can also mean acne breakouts and oily skin due to high humidity and sweaty skin from the heat. Luckily, summer acne can be easily prevented if you know what to do.

Tips in Preventing Acne during the Summer Season:

1. Cleanse your skin regularly. Because of the weather, you will often sweat a lot during summer. This could be a breeding ground for acne, since acne-causing bacteria and dead skin cells may settle in your pores if you do not wash them off. So wash your skin regularly. Simply cleanse your face twice a day with a gentle exfoliating cleanser and follow with an oil-free moisturizer. If you are also prone to acne breakouts on your shoulders and back, make sure that you use a loofa to gentle exfoliate those areas free of dead skin and oil.

2. Wear breathable clothing. The summer season can become very hot. Make sure that you wear comfortable clothes that are breathable. Allowing your skin to breathe is important so your pores will be free of becoming clogged with impurities and also to prevent chaffing and irritation.

3. Use an oil-free moisturizer. Using an oil-free moisturizer after cleansing will balance the pH levels of your skin, reducing oils that surface to the skin and will also keep your skin hydrated. Because it’s oil-free, there will be no added oil on your skin to cause breakouts. Your skin will also look younger if you moisturize daily.

4. Drink plenty of water. Your body cannot function if dehydrated. Your skin cannot function properly either and it will show very quickly. If dehydrated, your skin will feel dry, making it flaky and irritated. These flakes are dead skin cells, which can clog up your pores with acne-causing bacteria and oil, contributing to acne on your skin. So it’s important to drink plenty of water, especially during the summer since you’re losing a lot of water in your body due to sweating.

Summer can be an exciting time for you but acne can ruin it. The great thing is that you can do something about it – Simply learn how to take care of your skin during this season and you do not have to worry about acne spoiling the fun for you. Make sure you also wear oil-free cosmetics and sunscreen too! Happy Summer!
