Want some great tips on how to look and feel your best? Well look no further because Acne Skin Site is here to save the day! Here are some of the most important beauty treatments to follow to keep your skin beautiful and make you feel beautiful too! We promise they work and will improve your skin and self-esteem too!

1. Cleanse your face morning and night with a gentle cleanser and follow with an oil-free moisturizer. Don’t skip any part of this routine or your skin will punish you with breakouts!

2. Use a gentle facial mask once a week to remove deeply embedded impurities that will cause breakouts down the road. Check out our Homemade Facials section and try them all to see what facial mask you love the most!

3. Exfoliate your skin with a gentle exfoliating scrub a minimum of 3 times a week. Doing so will remove dead skin (cellular build-up) allowing pores to breathe and removing excess oils and dirt.

4. Use an eye cream morning and night to brighten and hydrate the very thin layer of skin under your eye. It will also aid in stopping premature wrinkles from forming. Check out our Eye Care tab for more beauty tips for eyes.

5. Use oil-free and paraben-free cosmetics to allow skin to breathe and so pores don’t become clogged. Less chemicals in your skin as well…yay!

6. Wash your makeup brushes every two weeks to remove bacteria, dirt, and oils. If you don’t, you are more likely to break out because you are putting all that gunk right back on your pretty lil’ face!

7. If you use cosmetic sponges, replace every time so you don’t have bacteria collecting in the sponges. Bacteria loves spongy foam! Yuck!

8. Eat lots of fruits and veggies! So many different types are known to fight acne and other skin conditions as well! Many of the vitamins and nutrients found in them are added to skin care products so why not eliminate the middle man and eat the fruits and veggies?! Also are great directly on your skin to fight acne!

9. Don’t touch your face during the day or rest your cell phone on your face while your talking….you’re asking for acne trouble if you do!

10. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night to allow your skin to restore itself while your body rests.

11. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated.

12. Workout at least 4 days a week to allow your body to get strong and to sweat out all the toxins in your body. Make sure you shower as quickly as you can after your workout!

13. Change your bed sheets every week to minimize bacteria from getting on your skin, causing you to break out.

14. Don’t tan! Are you asking for wrinkles and skin cancer? We think not. Just don’t do it. And if you’re outside, wear sunscreen!

15. Love yourself from the inside out ☺

I’m 16 years old,and I have severe acne. I try a lot of brand cream (one of them is Benzac, benzoyl peroxide) and I also tried Cethaphil and tea tree oil. But my acne is not gone and its getting worst. can I ask help from you? or just an opinion how to get rid off my acne. I don’t want to tease me because of my pimples.

    • Yo! - June 27, 2012 at 5:49 pm - Reply

Definitely go see a dermatologist. Let them know you have tried various brand already and ask for accutane. Research accutane first though so you know about it’s side effects/risks before using it! Go to a dermatologist as soon as possible, if affordable!

    • Tiffany - July 10, 2012 at 12:00 am - Reply

I suggest that you may go to a dermatologist or an ob-gyne doctor. It is appropriate to go to a dermatologist since it is regarding skin care but it may be because of your hormones, the reason why I suggested an ob-gyne doctor. And since you are still a teenager, your raging hormones are all over your body so that maybe the case. It would be better to consult two doctors. So you will know the reason of your acne breakout. 🙂 Hope that helps.

I also had acne and tried all creams even ones the doc had given. I then got some face wash from a beauty salod called ‘Murad’ and that worked amazingly. Try this, I think its great. Just wash your face with it morning and night as you would normally and within days you could notice a difference (well I did). I don’t know where you could get it from but it may be online 🙂

First is first. Dont use benzoil peroxide!! It really damages your skin. I can’t really say what can or can’t help but wash your face daily (morning and night) dont go popping the acne or w.e. And maybe see a dermatologist or read tips on here.. they’re great!!(:

    • iUnderstand - July 10, 2012 at 6:17 pm - Reply

When going to a dermatologist, express how you do not want acne scars after using their treatment. My dermatologist gave me a topical cream and it scarred my face terribly.

Hello^^ I am 16 this year too, however I had been plagued by acne since the age of about 9 or 10 years old. T.T Now my acne condition is somewhat improved, just that blackheads still persist at my Tzone area T.T

I have seen the dermatologist and I suggest that you start now before your body changes again. I certainly will not recommend you to take accutane unless your acne is cystic because the side effects of it is undesirable. Ask for differin cream or gel (also 0.1% adapalene) instead; it is a little drying initially but will soon go away at about 2 weeks. Other than that, you will experience purging of pimples and blackheads for awhile. Depending on your severity, the purging period ends at about 8 to 12 weeks. Then it will get better:)

      Best wishes from Singapore ^^

    • SkinRehab - September 16, 2012 at 8:27 am - Reply

      Hi there,

I highly do not recommend accutane, especially you’re only 16. Accutane thins the skin out and can cause severe damage to the skin. It can cause acne scarring too.

I have battle with acne all my life and still am. I’m 31. Unfortunately, acne is a disease and will/or will not return. However, you can control the acne by following a good home regimen. A good home regimen is consist of a good cleanser. Depending how severe your acne is, 3% benzoyl peroxide for severe acne case or use a cleanser with Salicylic acid ingredients. After washing your face, I highly recommend a toner then a serum. If you are interested in products, I can give you the name of the brand I am currently using.

      Hope this help!

      Thanks!

I had severe acne but all I did was wash my face 2 sometimes 3 times a day if my face got oily. And well it might be something your eating that’s causing your acne. For example I brake out with chips so I stopped eating them and my acne calmed =) but watch what your eating and DO NOT touch your face or poke at it. Buy and oil free moisturizer for your face, if you wear makeup try not to wear a lot of it. And yes! And drink lots of water! Clean out your system. This should help some bit. If you have redness tell your doctor he/she might prescribe you an antibacterial that will bring the redness down =)

    • Purple - January 31, 2013 at 6:49 am - Reply

This might sound weird, but just use water. It worked for me (I’m 16 as well) and it might work for you. Drink PLENTY of water. Only use water to wash your face. No soap or anything on your face. Just water. And wash your face at least 2 times a day. Wash your face with warm-hot water. I started doing this about a year ago, and my skin improved dramatically! Way more than when I used all those name brand stuff. My blackheads are nowhere near as noticeable as before, and the only time I breakout is during my time of the month.

    • nisha - June 23, 2012 at 11:21 pm - Reply

      hey !
since your skin is getting darker and darker everyday
you should use sunscreen atleast 30 spf
so you can prevent yourself from getting any darker
and use lemon on your face 3 times a week so you will get some shades lighter
also, eat a lot of iron riched foods ( tomato, spinach, beef) and antioxidants ( grapes, oranges) ones also
they will help you get red rich blood which will help your skin to lighten
      hope i helped:)

i do not have severe pimples.but, i have alot of black and white heads and also acne scars.. do you have any method to remove it? im using proactive right now but, the acne is sttill there 🙁 any ways?

    • iUnderstand - July 10, 2012 at 6:13 pm - Reply

I have the same problem. First, I wash my face with clean &clear oil free soap, then I used these strips called biore a few times a week. The strips help alot for black and white heads, but only use up to 3 times a week. For the acne scars, you have to use microdermabrasion, which peels the skin and gives you new layers of beautiful skin as the acne scars fade. I cannot recommend which brand to use because everyone’s faces differ but you can try one different brand each month, and keep using the one your skin likes best. Remember to moisturize or you skin will look peely and dry.

  • Sam♥ - June 1, 2012 at 3:05 am - Reply

Hey! Try Eucerin and differin…. And Ultrabase as a moisturizer…. Well actually you should visit a dermatologist 😉

  • Riley - June 1, 2012 at 5:47 pm - Reply

Mavs: I know the feeling of having a bad acne problem with little results from the creams, cleansers, and washes at the store. Besides using the tips giving on this site I also started using Neurtogena’s Skin ID. OMG it has worked wonders for me! Very rarely do I see myself with breakouts or pimples. I was also a person that ate bagles and baked goods in the mornings….NOT good for your skin. Baked goods make you breakout more! not saying you can’t eat them, but if you are try and reduce your intake and that will also help your skin. Hope this helps!

    to Mavs ::

Actually I’m same with You .
    But my suggest is ,
You may don’t use too much of all kinds of product .
If one use to 1 , just stay to that .
If you keep trying all kinds , making your face like an experiment ..
It will cause your face more worst 🙂

This is my opinion lahhhh 😀

I’m 11 (almost 12) and going into seventh grade next school year. I have combination skin that is VERY prone to acne, and both the scars from previous breakouts and the acne itself have brought my confidence down a lot. I’ve had people make rude comments/insults about it and it really hurt, and I’m really insecure about my skin now. Plus my friends all have nearly perfect skin. I’ve tried lots of different cleansers, toners, masks, and astrigents, and they’ve certainly helped to calm the acne down so I don’t get as many breakouts but I haven’t found anything that REALLY works for me yet. Right now I use Proactiv, a clay mask, an acne-control lotion, this one Neutrogena oil-eliminating astrigent(or something like that), and a few other products that I only use every once in a while. I also drink green tea every day, since I heard that it can help get rid of acne. Is this too much? And is it bad that I have such severe acne at such a young age? :/ I also use a little concealer to cover it up a little. My parents said that they would take me to a dermatologist if my acne got any worse… if anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it! Thanks SOOO much! 🙂
    P.S. Sorry for long comment

I totally understand you! I started breaking out when I was that
Age too. What I use that somewhat helps, ( better than anything I’ve ever
Used so far) is a Clarisonic- You can buy them online and at stores like Macy’s, and they are amazing! If you put Proactive on it, then turn it on
It will clean your face, and you can see results by the next day! I still
Breakout, but when I do I just use my Clarisonic! 🙂 Hope this helps a little!

I’m 16 , I’ve been having acne since I was 12 . really bad acne . I’ve been to a few dermatologist , facials , wash and creams but nothing worked . I’ve always been bullied about this and I’m very insecure + I dont know what else would work . any help ? 🙁

    • Candice - August 17, 2012 at 9:26 am - Reply

Had you used them regularly? You should use the prescription for at least 8 months to see visible results. If your body sense that it kept having to adapt to new creams and facial washes etc, its not going to work out….

If Differin hadn’t worked for you, you might need accutane despite of its side effects…
I understand that you undergo emotional stress due to your outward appearance because i have experienced bullying myself.

Stress aggravates acne and it causes a vicious cycle, so i suggest that you try out ways to destress and let it go instead 🙂 Plus, I suggest that you go to another dermatologist, and specify which creams, topicals, facial washes that hadn’t work for you, so that the dermatologist can decide what he can prescribe.

Also I suggest you put honey on pimples 🙂 Just enough to cover the individual pimples. If its severre, smear honey all over the face and let it rest for 30 minutes. It helps with scars and reduction of inflammation in pimples.

      Best Wishes from Singapore ^^

Hey, I’m 18 but I had terrible acne experience in couple years ago, then I realized my body didn’t work with any chemical products to vanish the acne. But I tried to only use my daily facial wash and wear sunscreen on day time and vitamin C at night. No more benzolac, tea tree oil or other products to minimize the acne. And I started to drink healthy & fresh juice with combination of oranges, carrots & tomatos. Really works on me, belive me for teeanger we can’t fight those hormones, they’re just natural ‘disaster’ for us :p It’ll be gone as we grow old & always eat healthy food. Works well!i

I breakout a lot before, but since i started following the tips here all my acne is gone. i efoliate my face 3 times a week with Lemon and sugar, i don’t even cleanse but i wash my face everyday before going to bed. It worked for me it can work for u too. Try scrubbing.

  • MissT - October 29, 2013 at 9:37 pm - Reply

The suggestions by Kyle have been a lifesaver for me…I am making my own scrubs at home…try papaya, honey and sugar, as well as lime or lemon juice, as a toner, which gives the skin a beautiful complexion. Sometimes I steam my face over a bowl of piping hot water with salt in it.See what you like. I find that natural/organic is less harsh and more forgiving on our skin. There is also the Simple brand of products from UK which are very gentle, but effective. I’ve been using this for about 3 months and everyday gets better. Try vitamins as well…I take Nature’s Bounty Hair, skin and nails, which contains vitamin c, e and calcium. Bottom line, you have to create a regimen.
