Taking Steps to Prevent Acne

At some point or another, everyone deals with having to get rid of acne. Whether you have a mild breakout every now and then or are dealing with severe acne that doesn’t seem to want to leave, there are steps you can take to help heal acne and prevent it from reoccurring. While there is not just one specific way to prevent acne because it is primarily a hormonal issue and people have different acne and hormonal issues, these are some acne remedies that will help keep acne outbreaks to a minimum:

1. Cleanse your Face Twice Daily – Cleansing your face is the most important step to follow. Excess oil, acne-causing bacteria, and dead skin cells get trapped in the pores, causing acne to form. It’s recommended to cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser twice daily, morning and night, but not more than three times a day. Over-cleansing can strip skin of essential oils needed to hydrate the skin properly and can cause irritation, inflammation, and dryness.

2. Moisturize with an oil-free moisturizer Twice Daily – After cleansing and gently patting your face dry, it is important to follow with using an oil-free moisturizer to help the skin retain its natural moisture. The skin needs to have balanced pH levels, otherwise a combination of dryness and oiliness will occur, causing severe breakouts and quite irritated skin. Using an oil-free moisturizer will not cause the skin to be more oily or cause more breakouts. So start following this step today!

3. Reduce your stress – This might actually be the hardest remedy but it’s important. Regular exercise and setting aside time to just relax is important for your overall health. Your emotional state can contribute to the worsening of your acne. Properly taking care of your body’s needs and getting good sleep will go a long way in keeping your skin looking clear.

My skin is very oily, and I am currently using Nivea Soft as my moisturizer, which contains Jojoba oil in it. Is it a good moisturizer for me or should I go find something else oil-free?

    Thank you xxx
